In news regarding my nature/biologist/ecologist related side, I will be starting an internship at a nearby National Park- as a vegetation management intern. Basically battling invasive plants, scouting out rare plants in riparian habitat, and without giving away my location too much- its a pretty huge park so I would love to also consider it an exploration mission as well as a networking one. :) In a slightly off topic- artish related subject, I got a sticker from Shenandoah National Park last year and I am in love with it... it is my favorite sticker and it just made it onto my water bottle for the world to see! To give an update, my summer is FILLED with outdoor activity! I could not possibly spend more time out there! I've got my hiking shoes on at least 6 days of the week. My summer job is 4 days a week and I collect data for a University research lab, another 1 or 2 days of the week are devoted to data collection for my thesis! This means I'm hiking around the woods tracking 8 spotted turtles, who were once all traveling between ponds but now have slowed down for the summer and are mostly just chilling under vegetation. Besides that I'm doing some vegetation transects and water pH measurements. I've camped several times, and hiked here and there

I am excited to tell everyone, my graduate school thesis project got funding.... This Spring and Summer I will be collecting, fitting with transmitters, and tracking 10 Spotted Turtles in the nearby state park, to record their movements on a site that has been recovering from a forest clear cut 20 years ago! There has been a previous study done about 10 years ago and this could be some pretty significant data :D This will be a lot of work but so worth it! Spotted Turtles need our attention!
