Topo Graptemys geographica White Water Kayaking by riverTurtle790
Topo Graptemys geographica White Water Kayaking
First attempt at every drawing white water.... not too bad. I used my boyfriend's pictures of kayaking to reference the drawing of him. And since my work always seems to have a turtle in it> here it is: A literal topographic map turtle (Graptemys geographica!) and if you look close it is a map of the Harper's Ferry area.

(sadly I didn't end up painting on a real canvas since digital art is taking over my life..... I got this printed on a canvas at walmart!)

(c) art done by me, kayaker referenced by a picture of my boyfriend, turtle referenced from google images & topographic map edited and cut to the turtle shell shape from a google image

I haven't had all that much time for art lately :( but I've wanted to do this for a while so I'm really glad it happened, and I'm happy to post something turtley again!

Basically everyone likes ducklings and most people would be on the ducklings side here..... hoping that it gets back to its mother. But look at this poor, patient and hungry snapping turtle.... now he's been waiting for some prey to come along and its just what he's been looking for. Good for him :D haha

I am most proud of my color blending abilities here, that and the water. Im usually horrible at that! But these are some of my favorite colors anyways, and water is my favorite element, so I was so stoked to have drawn it to my liking... I did reference the snapper and the duck and a the water surface just slightly but this art is very much my own :D Enjoy!!!

Terrifying Turtle by riverTurtle790
Terrifying Turtle
Well, what can I say? My Halloween pumpkin carving this year just had to be a turtle. An mischievous evil looking spotted turtle to be exact! This took a few hours and I think it turned out exactly how I wanted :)
The lid is shaped like a maple leaf, which nicely ties the woodsy feel into the scene I picked!

Now my pumpkin will rot away, but at least I've got one more field day to go see my study turtles!!!!

Ps. Damn, the water is going to be so cold :/

To give an update, my summer is FILLED with outdoor activity! I could not possibly spend more time out there! I've got my hiking shoes on at least 6 days of the week. My summer job is 4 days a week and I collect data for a University research lab, another 1 or 2 days of the week are devoted to data collection for my thesis! This means I'm hiking around the woods tracking 8 spotted turtles, who were once all traveling between ponds but now have slowed down for the summer and are mostly just chilling under vegetation. Besides that I'm doing some vegetation transects and water pH measurements. I've camped several times, and hiked here and there and I will be camping again next weekend and learning *finally!!!* how to wake board!

Art got put on the back burner but luckily it is easy for me to draw turtles so they will be shot out randomly, and when I get around to it I'll share a few spotted turtle pictures that I had the privilege of taking since I see my extended family of them on a weekly basis :)

I've actually reverted back to being wild... or feral? lol Wild.
